Representatives of about 30 brazilian cultural entities held on October 26 the second meeting with members of the UIA2020Rio Executive Committee. The meetings are being held to define complementary activities to the 27th World Congress of Architects UIA2020Rio, which takes place between July 19 and 26, 2020 in Rio. This time, the meeting was in the beautiful Itamaraty Palace, a building built in the mid-19th century that was the first headquarters of the Brazilian Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and now houses the collections of the Historical and Diplomatic Museum and the Historical Archive.
- The contributions of the entities are very encouraging. We have already received several project proposals since the first meeting a month ago and the important thing now is to define a work strategy - said the architect Augusto Ivan, who has been coordinating complementary activities to the Congress.
During the meeting, new ideas for complementary activities were proposed. The creation of an organizing committee and a communication network was also defined. This way, the representatives of all entities will be able to exchange information about their projects, which should preferably take place between March and August 2020 - year in which Rio must be declared World Capital of Architecture by UNESCO.
At the end of the meeting, the group could visit part of the facilities of the Historical and Diplomatic Museum (located in the Itamaraty Palace) and see some rarities of the collection as maps of the 17th and 18th centuries - some of them brought by the Royal Portuguese Family in 1808.
The meeting gather representatives of institutions such as the Botanical Garden, the National Historical Museum, the Galpão Applause, the Portuguese Royal Cabinet, the UFRJ, the IED, the ESPM, the Polo Rio Antigo, the Casa do Saber, the Itamaraty Palace, the Instituto Histórico Geográfico Brasileiro, the Helio Oiticica Art Center and the Rio Commercial Association.
